Plastic Surgery Center of North Florida - Procedures
Facelift
Aging of the face is inevitable. Over time, the supporting structures of the face loosen resulting in the redistribution of not only the skin of the face and neck but also of the deeper structures of the face. Some of the signs and stigmata of facial aging are the development of jowls, flattening of the cheek prominences, deepening of the nasolabial folds, loss of jawline definition and the accumulation of excess skin and fat in the neck. People age differently and for this reason, any operation which attempts to restore a more youthful facial appearance must be customized to each patient.

Tyrone offer a full range of face and neck lifts with attention made to restoring both the facial skin and the deeper soft tissues of the face to achieve a long lasting result. A facelift may be done in conjunction with other procedures to help you achieve a balanced, rejuvenated appearance and maximize the results of your surgery.

Eylelid Surgery
The eyes are often the first facial features to show visible signs of aging. Patients often complain of puffy eyelids with excess, wrinkled skin. Cosmetic surgery of the eyelids (blepharoplasty) is performed to rejuvenate the eyelids. Just as there are many types of facelifts, there are many procedures to rejuvenate the eyelids. Some patients may benefit from simple fat removal of the lower eyelids which results in no external scarring while others may require that excess skin and muscle be removed and the remaining tissues restored to a more youthful position. If incisions are required, they are well concealed in the eyes' naturally-occurring folds and creases and become nearly imperceptible over time. Blepharoplasty is often performed in conjunction with other procedures to maximize your surgical result.

Browlift
A brow or forehead lift restores a more youthful, refreshed look to the area above the eyes. It is frequently performed in conjunction with blepharoplasty in an attempt to maximize your surgical result. There are numerous techniques to achieve the desired goals during a browlift. Tyrone prefer an endoscopic browlift when both medial and lateral aspects of the brow require elevation. This approach requires much smaller incisions than traditional approaches and is just as efficacious. Furthermore, the endoscopic approach allows manipulation of the muscles in between the eyebrows which can eradicate “worry” lines. For patients seeking only a slight elevation in the lateral aspect of the brow, a minimal incision lateral brow lift may be appropriate.

Nose Reshaping (Rhinoplasty)
The nose is the centerpiece of the face and even a subtle alteration to the nasal bones and cartilage can produce dramatically improve one’s appearance. Prominent humps can be removed, delicate tip cartilages can be refined and the nostrils can be narrowed. Just like all plastic surgery procedures, rhinoplasty must be customized to the patient’s needs and desires. During your consultation, our physicians will devise a surgical plan that is right for you.

Liposuction
Liposuction is the most popular cosmetic surgical procedure in the U.S. today. Also known as “lipoplasty” or “suction lipectomy”, this technique is used to sculpt the body by removing undesirable fatty deposits from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck. The procedure is performed by making almost imperceptible incisions in hidden areas and skin creases to allow passage of a cannula into the fatty subcutaneous tissues. Suction is then applied to the cannula and the fatty tissue is removed while preserving the surrounding tissues. A number of new techniques, including ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty (UAL), the tumescent technique, and the super-wet technique, are helpful in providing selected patients with more precise results and quicker recovery times. Although no type of liposuction is a substitute for dieting and exercise, liposuction can remove stubborn areas of fat that don't respond to traditional weight-loss methods.

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)
Abdominoplasty, more commonly known as a "tummy tuck," is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall. The procedure can dramatically reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen, and may involve the repair of a bulge or protuberance in the lower abdomen that comes from weakened stomach muscles. Good surgical candidates generally are patients who have an abundant amount of lower abdomen skin and/or fat, such as women who developed loose skin and stretch marks from pregnancy or large weight loss. This procedure does produce a permanent scar, which, depending on the extent of the original problem and the surgery required to correct it, can extend from hip to hip. However, most patients readily accept a surgical scar for a flat, smooth, well contoured abdomen.

Arm Lift
Also known as a brachioplasty, an arm lift may be used to rejuvenate the loose and saggy skin that develops in the upper arm with weight loss or aging. This procedure may be combined with liposuction in order to restore a more youthful form to the upper arm. Patients usually experience a significant improvement in the way clothes fit the arm, and improved confidence when raising the arm or wearing short sleeve clothing. An arm lift does require an incision be placed along the inner side of the upper arm, and may limit your activity for several weeks.

Thigh Lift
A thigh lift, or more specifically a medial (inner) thigh lift, addresses the loose and saggy skin that can develop on the inner thigh with weight loss or aging. Similar to an arm lift in its development and treatment, a medial thigh lift requires an incision that is well hidden in the inner thigh crease. This procedure helps restore a more youthful appearance to the legs, specifically the inner thigh, and helps to reduce the loose skin and excess tissue in the area. Patients will generally notice an improvement in the way clothing fits, and an improved contour in the area.

Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation, technically known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a woman's breast for a number of reasons:

To enhance the body contour of a woman who, for personal reasons, feels her breast size is too small.

To correct a reduction in breast volume after pregnancy.

To balance a difference in breast size.

As a reconstructive technique following breast surgery.

By inserting an implant behind each breast, it is possible to increase a woman's bustline by one or more bra cup sizes. Typically, saline filled implants are used for augmentation mammoplasty, and these devices have been used safely for over twenty years. Under certain circumstances, silicone gel filled implants may be available for use under an FDA research protocol. Ask your surgeon if you qualify.

In addition to adding fullness to the breast, breast implants can be use to correct differences between the breasts or changes with the breasts. During the procedure, disparities in the size or shape of the breasts, and well as breast ptosis (drooping of the breast) can be corrected, restoring a more natural and youthful appearance to the breasts.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a technique to restore more youthful shape and position to a breast that has developed ptosis (drooping of the breast) related to aging, pregnancy, breast feeding, or weight loss. Over the years, these factors and the effects of gravity take their toll on a woman's breasts. As the skin loses its elasticity, the breasts often lose their shape and firmness and begin to sag. A breast lift is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts--at least, for a time. (No surgery can permanently delay the effects of gravity.) Mastopexy can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. If your breasts are small or have lost volume--for example, after pregnancy--breast implants inserted in conjunction with mastopexy can increase both their firmness and their size.

Breast Reduction
Patients with large, pendulous breasts may suffer from back, neck and shoulder pain related to the weight of their breast and the pull of their bra. Reduction mammoplasty, or breast reduction, is a surgical procedure to reduce the size and weight of the breasts in order to reduce these symptoms. It can also restore a more natural shape to the breast, and return the nipple to a more normal position on the breast mound. This procedure may be performed using a variety of incisions depending on the size and shape of the breasts. Some of the newer techniques can give excellent results while limiting the length of the scar. You surgeon can best inform you regarding the incisions required. This procedure is generally performed on an outpatient basis, and may be covered by your medical insurance plan.

Breast Reconstruction
Breast reconstruction is generally performed after mastectomy for breast cancer, but may also be performed to correct a congenital absence or acquired loss of the breast. The procedure may be either “immediate” or “delayed”, and may involve the use of an implant or transfer of your own tissues to reconstruct the breast. “Immediate reconstruction” is usually performed during the same operation as the mastectomy, while “delayed reconstruction” is performed at some later date after the tissues have healed. Reconstruction with an implant may involve placement of a tissue expander to create a pocket for either a saline or silicone gel filled implant. As with any implant, additional surgical procedures may be necessary in the future to correct changes or replace the implant. In contrast, autologous reconstruction involves the transfer of your natural tissues onto the chest to reconstruct the breast mound. The most commonly utilized techniques are the TRAM (transverse rectus abdominus myocutaneous) and LD (latissimus dorsi) flaps. These flaps typically require a longer initial surgical procedure and a short in-patient hospitalization, but can give excellent long term results. Your surgeon can best educate you on which procedure may be best for you.

Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia)
Under certain circumstances, a man can develop fibro-fatty breast tissue that resembles a woman’s breast. This condition is referred to as gynecomastia. The etiology of this process is not widely understood, however, it is known that certain medical conditions, medications, hormones, drugs, and other factors may play a role. In the majority of cases, no etiology can be determined. Gynecomastia affects an estimated 40 to 60 percent of men, and it may affect one breast or both.

Depending on the extent of the problem, gynecomastia may be treated with excision of the breast bud, liposuction of the fatty tissue, or a combination of both procedures. Occasionally, a secondary procedure to reduce excess skin or to return the nipple to a more normal position may be needed. Results can vary, but generally patients have a chest that is flatter, firmer, and better contoured, and they often feel more comfortable in form fitting clothing or going without a shirt.

Botox ® Cosmetic
Facial expressions are what make us unique. Unfortunately, years of frowning and smiling leave their mark on your face. “Crow’s feet” around the eyes, “frown lines” between the eyebrows and horizontal forehead lines are all caused by contractions of the underlying facial muscles. They are all dynamic wrinkles or wrinkles produced during contraction of underlying muscles. Our Plastic Surgeons are experts in facial anatomy and knows that these wrinkles are not just “skin deep”. Botox ® Cosmetic is a non-surgical procedure that can dramatically reduce these wrinkles. It is an office procedure that requires minimal to no down time. While this treatment is not a substitute for surgical rejuvenation, it can dramatically soften and rejuvenate specific areas. Botox injections must be repeated periodically to maintain desired results. Find out if Botox ® Cosmetic is right for you.

Restylane® / Hylaform® / Collagen Injections
Restylane® and Hylaform® are crystal-clear, biodegradable non-animal hyaluronic acid gels. Restylane®/Hylaform® are injected into the superficial layers of the skin with a very fine needle to soften the appearance of deep facial folds such as the deep lines or creases running from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Restylane®/Hylaform® can also be used to provide volume to areas of the face which have “deflated” over time such as the lips and cheeks. These treatments require minimal or no downtime. Most patients immediately notice a softening of facial lines and wrinkles or more defined, fuller lips. Just as with Botox®, treatments must be repeated periodically.

In addition to hyaluronic acid gels, there are other injectable filler substances which can be used to soften facial folds and wrinkles and enhance the lips, such as collagen and fat injections. Tyrone will be happy to discuss the advantages of each with you at the time of your consultation.

Sclerotherapy (Spider Veins)
Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical procedure to reduce the appearance of small, superficial veins, often called “spider veins”. Spider veins are an extremely common problem of unsightly webs of red, blue or purple veins that appear primarily on the lower extremities. It's estimated that at least half of the adult female population is plagued with this common cosmetic problem. Dr. Tyrone treats spider veins with a procedure called sclerotherapy. In this rather simple procedure, veins are injected with a sclerosing solution, which causes them to collapse and fade from view. The technique involves injection of a tiny amount of medication into the veins through a very fine needle. This procedure may require multiple treatments as not all veins may respond to the initial treatment. Typically, Dr. Tyrone finds that each session will remove approximately 50% to 75% of the spider veins treated, and an acceptable result may be obtained after 1 to 3 treatments. Following the procedure, patients are asked to wear a compression garment for 1-2 days, as this will significantly improve the response rate, and reduce the risk of complications.
